Leonardo DiCaprio walked away from the Dolby Theatre with his first Academy Award on Sunday night, landing Best Actor honors for “The Revenant,” while “Spotlight” was named Best Picture on an evening filled with sentiment and surprises.

Taking the stage at the 88th Academy Awards to a prolonged standing ovation, the actor thanked his costar  Tom Hardy  and “The Revenant” director Alejandro G. Iñárritu, who scored his own Oscar for directing the film.

DiCaprio also thanked  Martin Scorsese, as well as his parents.    It was long over do , Leo has been working his ass off and he deserved this Oscar finally . This his year.

The 88th annual Academy Awards are just about underway, and host Chris Rock is set to skewer the talent and executives in attendance. Shortly thereafter, we’ll see some trophies handed out — maybe even one to Leonardo DiCaprio. Imagine that.

Leo’s not only the frontrunner for Best Actor, his film, “The Revenant,” is the odds-on heavy favorite to take home Best Picture. To score Sunday’s grandest — and final — award, the Alejandro G. Inarritu film will have to beat out “The Big Short,” “Bridge of Spies, “Brooklyn,” “Mad Max: Fury Road,” “The Martian,” “Room” and “Spotlight.”
